5/11 ECs, 0/11 Hold Corrections. I am a little frustrated that Mabel hasn't been able to do 2" off the ground. She's protesting, and I feel like it takes her 2 weeks to do what other dogs do in 1. I didn't miss a training session this week, I worked really hard to speed her up. At least we made some progress this week. I feel like a lot of my work to get her to be able to do this was in vain. Advice is appreciated.
What do you mean, 'in vain'? She is moving forward, even on her belly with your excellent EC, her Hold is solid, and she clearly knows what to do.
Thus is an excellent EXAM, she is simply choking retrieving on the dB above the ground. Great!
So, do 1 warmup retrieve at mid way below eye level (that is correct) and all the next retrieves just above thr ground. Mabel will quickly recognize that pattern of placement and figure out she can avoid EC's by paying attention to the location of her dB.
Repeat this EXAM, bet you can have it passed before class tomorrow
Alice, you are doing everything RIGHT, Mabel just hasn't connected the mental dots that her responsibility to retrieve ALSO includes paying attention to WHERE her dB is. That responsibility is on her. Keep on keeping on, she'll figure it out when she gets tired of steady, unending, repetitve EC'S.

Just her way of avoiding the job at hand.
